East Asia (China, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau)
East Asia, one of the five regions of Asia, is located east of Central Asia, with its eastern border running along the East China Sea. East Asia is politically divided into eight countries and regions: China, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau. This region covers a total area of 4,571,092 square miles and has a population size of more than 1.641 billion, which represents 22% of the global population and 38% of Asia’s total population. Many residents of East Asia are concentrated in major metropolitan areas such as Beijing and Tokyo.
The geography of East Asia is varied depending on the zone. The inner continental area experiences a temperate climate, while Mongolia is covered by the arid Gobi desert. China, the largest country in the region, is home to both mountains and plateaus, while Japan is characterized by thousands of islands and coastlines. Today, East Asia is believed to have some of the most advanced technologies in the world, which fosters economic development.
China is an East Asian country, situated in the Northern and Eastern hemispheres of the Earth. China shares its borders with 14 countries: Mongolia in the north; Russia and North Korea in the northeast; Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, India, Bhutan and Nepal in the south; Pakistan in the southwest; Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan in the west. China is also bounded by the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea in the east and the South China Sea in the southeast.
China covers an area of about 9.6 million sq. km in East Asia. the country has a highly varied topography including plains, mountains, plateaus, deserts, etc.
Mongolia is a landlocked East Asian country. It is located in the Northern and Eastern hemispheres of the earth. Mongolia is bordered by two nations: China in the south and Russia in the north. Although Mongolia does not share a border with Kazakhstan, the countries are only 37 km apart.
With an area of 1,564,116 sq. km, Mongolia is the world’s 18th largest country. It is located in East Asia where it is bounded by land on all sides.
_north Korea :
North Korea is a country in Eastern Asia. It is located both in the Northern and Eastern hemispheres of the Earth. North Korea occupies the northern half of the Korean Peninsula bordering the Korea Bay and the Sea of Japan, between China and South Korea. North Korea is bordered by China in the north, by Russia in the northeast, by South Korea in the South. The Military Demarcation Line forms the land border between North and South Korea.
North Korea covers an area of 120,540 sq. km in the northern half of the Korean Peninsula.
_South Korea :
South Korea is a country in Eastern Asia. It is located both in the Northern and Eastern hemispheres of the Earth. South Korea occupies the southern half of the Korean Peninsula, bordering the Sea of Japan in the east and the Yellow Sea in the west. The southern edge of South Korea rests on the Korea Strait and the East China Sea. The Military Demarcation Line forms the land border between South Korea and North Korea.
South Korea covers an area of 100,363 sq. km in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula.
_ Japan :
Japan is an East Asian country comprising a chain of islands between the North Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan, at the eastern coast off the Asian Korean Peninsula. It is located in the Northern and Eastern hemispheres of the Earth. The Island Nation stretches from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea in the south. It is bordered by the Sea of Japan in the west. The country shares its maritime borders with North Korea, South Korea, Philippines, Taiwan, Russia and China.
The archipelago of Japan contains over 4,000 islands stretching along the Pacific coast of East Asia, with four major islands (sometimes referred to as the “Home Islands”): Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu and Shikoku.
_ Hong Kong :
Hong Kong is a region in Eastern Asia. It is located on the east of the Pearl River Estuary on south coast of China. It is situated both in the Northern and Eastern hemispheres of the earth. The region is bordered by Guangdong province of China in the north and by South China sea in the east, south and west.
Hong Kong occupies a total area of 1,108 sq. km in the eastern Pearl River Delta of the South China Sea.it also has several offshore islands including Lantau Island (the largest one), Hong Kong Island, Lamma Island, Cheung Island, Po Toi Island, and others.
Taiwan (Republic of China) is located about 160 km off the Southeast coast of the continent of Asia, at the western edge of the Pacific Ocean between Japan and the Philippines. It is located in the Northern and Eastern hemispheres of the Earth. It is bounded by the East China Sea in the north and the Ryukyu Islands in the northeast. The vast Pacific Ocean lies to the east of Taiwan, and the Bashi Channel to the south. The Formosa or Taiwan Strait separates it from mainland China.
Taiwan is an island country located at the western edge of the Pacific Ocean. The main island of the country covers an area of 35,808 sq. km.
Macao, formally known as the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, is the world’s most densely populated region. It is located on the western Pearl River Delta along the coast of the South China Sea in Southeast Asia. Hong Kong is located to the east of Macao. The South China Sea bounds it to the south and east while the Zhuhai city of Guandong, China, borders Macao to the north and west.
Macau is a Special Administrative Region of China with an area of 115.4 sq. kmthe region comprises of a peninsula attached to mainland Asia and the islands of Coloane and Taipa in the South China Sea.
