Tourism in the Principality of Monaco.

Officially known as the Principality of Monaco, Monaco is an independent city-state, microstate, and country located in Western Europe along the French Riviera. France borders Monaco on three sides, while the Mediterranean Sea forms the country’s fourth border. The sovereignty of Monaco was officially acknowledged in 1861 after the signing of the Franco-Monegasque Treaty. Full voting powers as a member of the United Nations were granted in 1993. Although Monaco is independent, France is responsible for its defense. However, the city-state does have two military units. The capital city is Monaco. The state has an approximate area of about 0.78 square miles, had a population of 37,308 people in 2016, and its capital in Monaco. This area makes Monaco the world’s second smallest nation, as well as the most densely populated country.

Economy.

Monaco’s economy is the second highest in the world, with a gross domestic product nominal per capita of $153,177 and a gross domestic product purchasing power parity of $132,571. The CIA World Factbook reports Monaco has some of the lowest poverty levels in the world and an unemployment rate of only 2%. One of the major economic sectors is tourism, which is largely the result of Monaco’s beautiful sunny climate, as well as its casinos. In recent years, the banking sector, which has more than $116 billion in assets, has also prospered.

Tourism is one of the dominant economic activities in Monaco, accounting for about 15% of the country’s earnings. Ease of access to Monaco from major European destinations, an excellent climate, high-end hotels, good ports, and several annual cultural and sporting events attract tourists estimated at 4 million every year. The extremely low rate of crime in Monaco, the high quality of life, absence of income tax, and excellent health services and education has made Monaco the most preferred place for many people around the world.

1. Monte Carlo.

Monte Carlo is a region that boasts a magical atmosphere, in an environment of stunning natural beauty. Monte Carlo is located on a quay north of the Port of Monaco. There are stunning beachfront views from the wonderful balcony of Place du Casino. As Monaco’s wealthiest village, Monte Carlo attracts the rich and famous.

2.Palais du Prince.

In a unique location high above the sea on the picturesque Peninsula of Le Rocher, the Château de Prince is home to the world’s oldest monarchy. The noble family of Grimaldi founded Genoa of Monaco in 1297 after taking over the land from the Republic of Genoa. The site was originally built in the 13th century as a Genoese fortress, offering panoramic views, and medieval defensive spots. The castle was restored over the centuries and converted into a luxurious Louis XIV style palace.The State Apartments of the Palais du Prince is a private residence but is open to the public at certain times of the year.

3. Musée Oceanographique.

The Musée Oceanographique is in a wonderful location in Le Rocher, about 90 meters above sea level. In this dramatic setting, the museum and aquariums stand on massive foundations that took 11 years to build. This is one of the oldest aquariums in the world, commissioned by Prince Albert I, great-grandfather of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, inaugurated in 1910. The oceanographic museum is constantly developing and has world-renowned exhibitions in marine and oceanographic sciences. The museum’s valuable scientific collections include objects from the exploration of Prince Albert I and the discoveries of Jacques-Yves Cousteau.

4. Jardin Exotique.

One of the most beautiful things to do in Monaco is visit the gorgeous Exotic Jardin Exotique. The park is located in the Fontvieille (more modern section) of Monaco, just outside the historic center; for visitors arriving by car, there is a parking lot above the gardens at 63 Boulevard du Jardin Exotique. Perched on a steep cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, the Exotic Garden is a luxurious setting with flowering plants and mesmerizing sea views. Due to the mild weather and the consistency of sunlight on these hills, tropical plants are able to thrive. Opened in 1933, the gardens contain an impressive array of species from Africa and Latin America to the United States and Mexico. A wide variety of plants that thrive in this perfect climate. The gardens are neatly tended and extend greatly along the mountainside.

5. The Formula One.

The Formula One Grand Prix of Monaco is held in Monte Carlo every year last weekend in May. This is the only car race in the world that is held on the city streets. It runs from Albert Street 1 towards Place du Casino and around the agonizing turn in front of the Monte Carlo Fairmont Hotel. The Monaco Grand Prix, organized by the Automobile Club of Monaco, is one of the most iconic sporting events in the world. The narrow streets are not ideal for auto racing, but the race is on for tradition (and has been going on since the early 1900s). Because of the crowds it’s hard to get a good view, but the atmosphere is worth it. Another big event in May on the French Riviera is the Cannes Film Festival.
